(Announcer 1) In a 1950s America that never was… In a space-age future that will never be… Two robot brothers, Inkwell and NukLeon, emerge from Standby to bring joy and hope to a dying world. In RetroSight they are… The MELODIBOTS (NukLeon) I got metal skin, my veins are cold Core is charged, all systems go Waiting for a sign if it takes all night Cus I wanna get going by doing it right I feel like I’ve been at it couple times before But my chronometer reads just one day old Looking in the mirror, what do I see? Bright white eyes looking back at me. Listen to me brother, listen to me well I feel like I’ve broken off an evil witch’s spell All I know’s that I’m a robot that can dance and sing So it looks like I’m finally functioning I got memories up inside my head (In a 1950s America that never was) And I don’t rightly know what to make of it (In a space-age future that will never be) Interstellar pirates, cities in the sky (Two robot brothers, Inkwell and NukLeon) I miss them but I don’t know how or why (Bring joy and hope to a dying world!) I’m f-f-feeling like a movie I ain’t never seen I recognize the pictures on the silver screen But who’s the main cat who’s running the show? Man, I tell ya, I just don’t know Listen to me brother, listen to me well I feel like I’ve broken off an evil witch’s spell All I know’s that I’m a robot that can dance and sing So it looks like I’m finally functioning (Inkwell) What’s the racket? What is happening out there? I’ve waited too long For someone to come Take everything away! I hope it’s nothing Cus I ain’t finished preparations yet There’s only one thing I would it to be And I won’t hold my breath (NukLeon) Listen to me brother, listen to me well I feel like I’ve broken off an evil witch’s spell All I know’s that I’m a robot that can dance and sing (Inkwell) Well it looks like your finally functioning! (NukLeon) Listen to me brother, listen to me well I feel like I’ve broken off an evil witch’s spell All I know’s that I’m a robot that can dance and sing (Both) So it looks like we’re finally functioning

Merrier 04:07
(Inkwell) Knock on the door like a half-dead swindler Who’s to say if I’m right or wrong? I heard a cry from a side-car motivator I had to ask about the cost She got a call from her long-lost sister but she Couldn’t pay the imagin’ry toll Rock N’ Roll don’t give no apologies so I’ll just pretend like I don’t know (All) Used to say that I couldn’t be merrier Who’s to say that I won’t be the merrier? (NukLeon) Won’t be the merrier... Everybody wants to know, waiting, watching, by it goes Not ever gonna say a word Silver platter, serve it up, waiting for someone to fill the cup Boy I tell ya, better start to dig through the dirt I’m no dictionary, I’m a mechanical anthropology (All) Chase your tail, chase them ghosts! (NukLeon) Rock N’ Roll don’t give no apologies so I’ll just pretend like I don’t know (All) Used to say that I couldn’t be merrier Who’s to say that I won’t be the merrier? Used to say that I couldn’t be merrier Now I feel like I won’t be the merrier (Inkwell) Won’t be the merrier…. (Announcer 2) Ladies and gentlemen, this attraction just might be the death of you! Please keep your hands to yourself and prepare for a nightmare of a ride! (All) Used to say that I couldn’t be merrier Who’s to say that I won’t be the merrier? Used to say that I couldn’t be merrier Now I know that I won’t be the merrier Won’t be the merrier!

Vertices 04:09
(Both) Hum-buh huh huh Hum-buh huh huh (NukLeon) I feel like I’ve been here before Didn’t think I could hurt like this anymore Those three years were hard on me But to you, I suppose, they were just a dream (Both) There’s incessant bells ringing inside my head When you’re with someone else and then with me again Make up your mind, don’t take your sweet time, please (Inkwell) I’ve been up, I’ve been down, that’s not new But my head spun around when I was with you Then it broke, took a turn, woe is me You made me one of three vertices (Both) There’s incessant bells ringing inside my head When you’re with someone else and then with me again Make up your mind, don’t take your sweet time, please You told me not to concern myself with what I had learned But when you’re laughing with him, I know my choices are slim (Inkwell) It’s hurting my pride, I know I’m rusting inside (NukLeon) He knows he’s rusting inside (Both) We know we’re rusting inside! I can’t stay, standing by, shutting down, wasting time I’ll get you out of my head, fill it with circuits instead Bet it all, set of hearts, game was rigged from the start I gave it all that I got, but failed to outstack the odds Not some toy, not some game, I can’t win, I won’t play I need someone just for me, I won’t just be one of three So now I’m moving on, so just leave me alone You’ve changed (You’ve changed) You’ve changed (You’ve changed) You’ve changed! Hum-buh huh huh Hum-buh huh huh

The Wastes 04:04
(Inkwell) I’ve been wand’ring The Wastes A barren and desolate place The diner’s crumbling in And the drive-in’s as dirty as sin (NukLeon) I’ve been wand’ring The Wastes Once fine, but now defaced There’s no oasis to let Me rest my weary head (Both) I’m looking for a light Not one from an atom-bomb’s glare But someone for me to hold tight And I’ll wander until I find her standing there But til then (Inkwell) I’ll be wand’ring The Wastes (NukLeon) Pray you don’t have to the same (Both) Whatever you do, don’t you start Wand’ring the wastes of your heart (Inkwell) Darling, I am looking for a light But not one from any atom-bomb’s bright red glare But someone for me to hold tight And I’ll wander these Wastes until I find her Standing right there (NukLeon) But til then I’ll be wand’ring The Wastes (Inkwell) Pray you don’t have to the same (Both) Lest you find a reason to start Wand’ring the wastes of your heart

Steppin' Out 03:42
(NukLeon) Well I just feel so sick and tired of feeling broken down Cus I got all these Memories that I can do without And everytime I turn around, another sight just brings me down Living with these songs inside my mind But I ain’t sticking ‘round no more Now’s the time (Both) I’m steppin’ out tonight! Gonna leave it all behind! I’m steppin’ out tonight! If you wanna tag along that’d be just fine That would be just fine (Inkwell) Well there’s just so much to do in the world out there And I think I know just the place to lose our thoughts and cares Let’s hit the road to Automa, a place that all the robots love I’d say it’s a paradise alright Say goodbye to all our fright And tell our doubt (Both) I’m steppin’ out tonight! Gonna leave it all behind! I’m steppin’ out tonight! If you wanna tag along that’d be just fine That would be just fine (The Melodibots and the Derelict Chorus) Let’s take some time away from this dusty scene Maybe find out who we’re supposed to be (Both) If you look up the stars are out With melodies flowing throughout the streets Let’s out of mind, out of sight The city lights are shining bright There ain’t no doubt (MB and DC) We’re steppin’ out tonight! Gonna leave it all behind! We’re steppin’ out tonight! If you wanna tag along that’d be just fine That would be just fine Steppin’ out tonight

(Inkwell) Welcome to the city that don’t need sleep It runs by our design Everybody here has a heart of gold And they’re all friends of mine Welcome to the world that we create It’s quite a sight to see We’re here for a good time and a long time So everybody swing with me! Once upon a time, a process crossed our minds We had a thought that every bot is worth another’s time So we all gather here to share our joys and fears We’re made for life, and life’s what you make So loosen up those gears! (Both) Cus nobody throws a party like us bots! (Inkwell) Stay up til we see the sun! (NukLeon) Just swap your core when the dancing’s done! (Both) Nobody throws a romp like robots (Inkwell) If ya think you’ve got what it takes (NukLeon) Just come find us and we will say (Both) Welcome to the city that don’t need sleep It runs by our design Everybody here has a heart of gold And they’re all friends of mine Welcome to the world that we create It’s quite a sight to see We’re here for a good time and a long time So everybody swing with me! (Inkwell) In here we’re safe from all the dangers lurking It’s a shielded bubble and it’s charged with lightning So we don’t have to worry ‘bout the ghouls and raiders Ain’t no-one getting in here who don’t belong (NukLeon) Gotta feeling that you belong! (Both) Cus nobody throws a party like us bots! (Inkwell) Stay up til we see the sun! (NukLeon) Just swap your core when the dancing’s done! (Both) Nobody throws a romp like robots (Inkwell) If ya think you’ve got what it takes (Both) Jump right in, everybody get crazy! (Both) *Unintelligible scatting* (Both) Welcome to the city that don’t need sleep It runs by our design Everybody here has a heart of gold And they’re all friends of mine Welcome to the world that we create It’s quite a sight to see We’re here for a good time and a long time So everybody swing with me! (Inkwell) Come along and swing with me (NukLeon) Don’t forget to grab your extra cores at the door! (Inkwell) Come join the robots! (Both) And swing with me! Swing with me!

(NukLeon) I’ve got that Springtime feeling And my head is reeling I visualize us two together You know the sun is shining And my temp is rising It’s gotta be that lovin’ weather The birds in harmony with your laughter It’s seventy degrees of happily-ever-after When there’s chance of rain you’ll pull me out of my slum The sunshine in your hair makes my circuits buzz Makes my circuits buzz, buzz, buzz And now no other matters Cus you’re the gal I’m after The past is in the past We’ll let it die The sky is blue, the grass is green But the best things have to be Lovin’ weather, you, and I The birds in harmony with your laughter It’s seventy degrees of happily-ever-after When there’s chance of rain you’ll pull me out of my slum The sunshine in your hair makes my circuits buzz Makes my circuits buzz, buzz, buzz And now no other matters Cus you’re the gal I’m after The past is in the past We’ll let it die The sky is blue, the grass is green But the best things have to be It could thunder up above But baby all I’m dreaming of Lovin weather You and I!

(NukLeon) Oh, memories… Go and make some for me There’s no reason to think that you can’t There’s no reason to not sing and dance The Wastes are hard They leave you with battle scars But believe me, you’re built to last Nothing out there can hold you back (Both) Don’t you think for a second that you’re alone Don’t you think for a second you have to outgrow The need to belong, the need to be loved… (Inkwell) Oh memories They’re waiting for you and me Everybody has worth where it counts Even when you feel down, you’re not out You know it’s true There’s so much in this world to do Grand adventures for all who seek There’s a reason that we have dreams (Both) Don’t you think for a second that you’re alone Don’t you think for a second you have to outgrow The need to belong, the need to be loved… There’s a Love waiting for you that you don’t yet know There’s a Life waiting for you, so get up and go Make memories, you can make some with me (Inkwell) There’s time, go live, everybody has a little heart left (NukLeon) Out there waiting, voice says, “You have a little heart left.”

(Inkwell) The atomic exposition back in 1958 Was a place for brilliant vendors Who had done their best to innovate Machines and new creations To improve this human race Like an atom-powered blender Or a car that travels time and space Anything you could imagine Came to life before your eyes There was a man there selling cages That were filled with copper butterflies You could buy a talking toaster All done up with sparkling chrome Or a three-armed robot butler It’s an atom-smashing fusion-powered Future fantasy, and it’s smack in the middle Of my twentieth century (Both) Come one, come all it’s about to begin The spectacle to turn your frown into a toothy grin Come right in, and take a seat We’re pretty positive that you’ll never want to leave Don’t be shy, come have some fun The Atomic Exposition has already begun Devices despite your wildest dreams And creations that will simply make you scream (NukLeon) If there’s one thing that brings wings to hearts and smiles to faces It’s hearing untold stories and seeing stupendous places It’s all right here, I assure you I can’t lie I could try but my circuitry just might fry And I prefer life, so take it from me Try some nitrogen ice-cream, freshly frozen Never dozing off, fulfilling our dreams until the day our problems cease (Inkwell) Mr. Zak, we would like you on the mic, would you kindly? (ZAK) Oh I’d love to speak! There’s just so much to see I’ll start off piece by piece Of your industry The hot steam powers up The ferris wheel and spinning cups It’s a new comprehension For an atomic exposition. Mechanical intuition with some fun ambition! Dreams born into existence Brought the park into fruition! Is that an airborne ark? It’s like a work of art! It’s like a ride that goes arounds While spreading cheer throughout the town! (All) It’s an atom-smashing fusion-powered Future fantasy, and it’s smack in the middle Of my twentieth century (Expo Attendee 1) Wow, so many lights and buttons and dials! I think it's time to invest in the atom. It seems like a very stable market. Not volatile at all! Atomic energy is completely safe! Mmm, that popcorn simply smells divine! Mr. Eisenhower? What are YOU doing here?! Hey, did ya see that new picture, Singing in the Rain? (Expo Attendee 2) Where is that music coming from? I've been standing next to these machines all day and I feel completely fine! Oh well look! La Croix for some reason! Nah, see, I don't think humans will ever get to the moon... Smell that, son? That's the smell of atomic radiation. Breathe it in, son, it's good for your bones! (Expo Attendee 3) Is that a Cadillac Eldorado? Look at all the robots! That one's flying! Dad, can we get a robot? I'll feed it and wash it and take it for walks... Look at that tall silver man over there with the funny hat! Duck season! *Vietnamese parent yelling at their unruly child* (Expo Attendee 4) What's special about this ice cream? It's frozen with nitrogen? Well that's pretty nifty! Hey ma, you've been needing a new blender right? This one's powered by the atom! By jove! Is that a boat taking off into the sky?! Hey, did ya see that new picture, The Forbidden Planet? Chorus 2a (All) Come one, come all it’s about to begin The spectacle to turn your frown into a toothy grin Come right in, and take a seat We’re pretty positive that you’ll never want to leave Don’t be shy, come have some fun The Atomic Exposition has already begun Devices despite your wildest dreams And creations that will simply make you scream (All) “By Atom’s glow, what a marvelous sight! If it were up, to me, we’d be here all night! I’ve never seen such a wondrous thing! What a time to create! What a time to be!” Try your best to keep from weeping, my dear But it’s time to say goodbye to our festivities, I fear We promise that we’ll be back, but til then Feel free to go and listen to this album again

about

IN A 1950'S AMERICA THAT NEVER WAS...

IN A SPACE-AGE FUTURE THAT WILL NEVER BE...

TWO ROBOT BROTHERS, INKWELL AND NUKLEON, EMERGED FROM STANDBY TO BRING JOY, HOPE, AND PEACE TO A DYING WORLD...

IN RETROSIGHT, THEY ARE THE MELODIBOTS!

NukLeon woke up in a disheveled workshop with two inescapable realizations. One, that he was a living, atom-powered collection of gears and circuits, and two, that his memory banks were already filled with images and memories that he didn't understand, even though his chronometer told him that it was his first day of life. Confused and in awe, he shambled out the door and found the world grey and scorched, turned to wastes. Startled by the ruckus, Inkwell came out of standby ready to defend his home, only to be pleasantly surprised that his brother was FINALLY FUNCTIONING.

Once united, the Melodibots noticed that secret subroutines had been unlocked. Old songs written by their missing creator Lonnis Tober III suddenly began coursing through their circuits, and music filled the workshop as they relived some of Lonnie's hardest memories. They sung of times when Lonnie missed the days when he was MERRIER, and even the AI in the workshop itself came alive and kept time as the bots sang of metaphorical VERTICES.

As time passed, Inkwell and NukLeon made excersions into THE WASTES, looking for signs of life beyond their own, some beacon of hope and love in a barren and desolate place. The only leads they could find were tales of the fabled city of Automa, that had somehow survived the Catastrophe and had become a pristine refuge for all robots who were brave enough to find it. Although it may have seemed like a mere legend, it was enough to ignite an electrical current of hope in the Melodibots' mainframes. Perhaps this was their chance to escape the past; perhaps this was their TURNING POINT.

Equipped with sufficient fusion cores, integrated weaponry, and the power of song, the Melodibots decided upon STEPPIN' OUT and hitting the road to Automa. Along the way, they met several Derelicts, robots who had succumbed to The Wastes and appeared to be completely defunct. However, Inkwell and NukLeon knew that, even in robots, "everybody has a little heart left." Together, they were able to repair and reactivate the Derelicts. Some simply thanked the Melodibots and went on their own merry way, but others joined them on their journey to Automa, leaving the dusty scene behind for the hope of a new life.

Eventually, the Melodibots and the Derelicts spotted a large transparent dome on the horizon with two energy pylons on either side. Automa, at last. Being robots, and clearly not ghouls, raiders, or any of the other dangers lurking in the Wastes, they were all admitted entrance. There, they underwent repairs after their long journey, and put on a show for the good bots of Automa. The venue was bopping as Inkwell encouraged everyone to "grab your favorite automaton and get ready to SWING (WITH ME)!" Next came NukLeon, who sung a song to a pretty lady-bot and complimented Automa's perfectly-calibrated climate control, which he referred to as "LOVIN' WEATHER." Finally, the Melodibots came together for the finale of the show, a song they had written based on their journey, and dedicated to all the Derelicts they met along the way. They may have started with broken, melancholy memories, but this was a new age.

They had made, and would continue to make, a newer, better version of memories... MEMORIES 2000.

THE EPILOGUE

Later that evening, NukLeon learned about the message delivery system used in Automa, the spectrogram; an encoded message delivered via sound waves and decoded in a robot's processor. NukLeon hired a delivery bot and had him sent to the girl he sang to at the show. It wasn't long before the girl heard the knock on the door and the delivery bot's refrain, "SPECTROGRAM FOR YOU, MA'AM!" But what did the message mean? Only a robot - or a very clever and resourceful human - could ever know...

Some time later, the Melodibots collaborated with the mayor of Automa and hosted a mock-up of the 1958 ATOMIC EXPOSITION to give everyone an idea of what life was like before the Wastes, and remind those who were around back then of the good times before the madness. Their intention: to celebrate the progress that brought them together, even as it simultaneously brought destruction.

After all... Where there's an ending, there's the beginning of something new.
